Christmas is now a fast-fading memory and 2019 has begun. I hope you have all enjoyed the festivities, however you celebrated and a refreshed for another session of art. Our art classes start on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th January at the usual times and in the usual place.
Just over thirty students enjoyed a very convivial Christmas dinner at Shortlands Golf Club in late November. The food was excellent and the wine and conversation flowed well. It was a great opportunity to have a good chat with old friends and their partners and make new acquaintences from amongst the groups.

The Cézanne: Portraits of a Life screening at the Odeon, Beckenham on 23rd January proved to be a very popular outing for my students. This was one of the series of Exhibitions on Screen screenings. This film explained the importance of impressionist Paul Cézanne and how his portraits departed from the usual style of the period, bringing the character of the sitter to life. In addition to looking at key pieces in the exhibition we saw where Cézanne lived and worked.
Exhausted by such a visual feast we repaired to Pizza Express for refreshments and discussion on what we saw. Some liked his work, some did not and some changed their preconceived ideas about him. All in all a stimulating evening. Here's to the next one.
The exhibition is on until 11 February at the National Portait Gallery.

Our annual exhibition is currently on at Frames And Art, 230 High Street, Bromley. Do drop in and pay a visit if you can - it's on until Saturday 28th October.
We held a very successful private view for the artists and their guests on Monday. It was very well attended with over 50 people there. Frames And Art kindly hosted us to a selection of hot and cold Brazillian snacks and everyone socialised over a glass or two of wine. Very convivial.
I must say that the standard of work gets better year on year. Some of it is down to my tutoring and encouragement in order to get the best out of each student, but a large part is due to the student's own talent and dedication to make the best work of art they can - despite occasionally wanting to give up!
